During 20 years, links were tight between Mozambique and the Eastern Bloc. Many people from Mozambique emigrated to work in Eastern Germany. Now back in their country, the « Madjermanes » as they are called are more than 16 000, most of them in Maputo the capitale. They wait for the Mozambique government to pay them back their social contribution and their pension that the Eastern Germany already paid to the State. Some estimate it could go up to $18 000 per person in a country where the average yearly salary is of $1 200.

Twenty years after the fall of the Berlin’s wall, they live nostalgic of the Eastern Germany and demonstrate every week.
